Monthly Traffic Update for February 2008
Highlights:
* International passenger volumes continued a positive trend in February 2008, up 6.8% over the same month last year, and up 4.0% on a 12 month rolling basis.
* International arrivals and departures were up 7.2%, and 6.3%, respectively.
* New Zealand resident arrivals continued to be strong, up 8.3% for February and 7.8% on a 12 month rolling basis.
* Major inbound markets were mixed, with Australia up 12.0%, the United Kingdom up 3.9% and the United States up 4.9%.
* Canadian arrivals were very strong, up 24.0% for the month and up 7.8% on a 12 month rolling basis.
* Growth in Chinese arrivals was lower than previous periods, up 5.5% for the month, and up 10.0% on a 12 month rolling basis. Japanese arrivals were down 10.7% in February and down 12.3% on a 12 month rolling basis. Korean arrivals down 7.3% for the month and 11.7% on a 12 month rolling basis.
* Domestic passenger volumes were up strongly at 17.8% compared to the same month last year and up 8.0% on a 12 month rolling basis. Competition in the domestic market has continued to drive strong growth.
* International aircraft movements and domestic aircraft movements increased in February by 7.9% and 9.2%, respectively. Year to date international aircraft movements were up 0.9% on the same month last year, and domestic movements were up 1.9%.
