Suzuki Grand Vitara Diesel Brings Welcome Surprises for Wellington Couple

The purchase of a new Suzuki Grand Vitara Eurodiesel has turned out to be a bonanza for a fortunate Wellington couple.

When Susan and Steve Martin acquired the 1.9-litre diesel-powered Grand Vitara from Suzuki agents Williams and Adams in Lower Hutt recently they were also treated to $1,500 worth of diesel fuel.

The fuel bonus was one of three packages offered to all buyers of new Grand Vitara models sold during October and November 2007.

The Martins were also eligible to win another prize for any Suzuki product up to the value of $21,000.

When they came up the winning number, the Tawa-based family chose a $20,800 Swift Ltd, New Zealand’s top-selling supermini model.

Steve Martin replaced the family’s 2003 model Grand Vitara V6 with the new Eurodiesel version of the latest generation Grand Vitara sport utility vehicle.

He liked the new turbo diesel model because it is easy to drive, cheap to run and represents good value for money.

Martin was also attracted to the Grand Vitara’s high level of safety, and the generous space for passengers and luggage space for three children, along with prams and oddments for the family.

The Eurodiesel had added appeal to Steve Martin because of its five-speed manual transmission.

“We were asked if we would like to participate in a Suzuki four wheel drive day, and we agreed as I was interested in seeing the capabilities of the new model Grand Vitara,” he said.

“With Sue and Emily, our two year old, in the back, and myself in the front, four wheel drive expert Pete Ritchie started the demonstration,” said Steve.

When it came to the steep hill-climbing test, the incline was so great Steve did not think he could get up the hill on his mountain bike without getting off.

“Pete showed us what to look for when going up hill and demonstrated going up and not making it, and what to do when that happens,” he said.

The Martins were impressed when the Suzuki climbed the hill without much effort – and the return down the steep slope was as much an eye-opener.

“It was the first time I have been in a vehicle looking at the ground through the front windscreen,” said Steve. “The only thing keeping us in our seats was our seat belts and Emily was looking decidedly worried.”

Peter Ritchie then demonstrated to the Martin family the stability of the Grand Vitara by tracking sideways along a hill.

While the Martins have been able to add another new Suzuki to their family, other buyers of new Grand Vitara also received a bonus.

A three-year free servicing entitlement was offered for 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre models, and an adventure package came with flagship V6-engined versions. The adventure package included a nudge bar, towbar and GPS Nuvi 30 Garmin portable GPS.
