Golden win for Wellington office
Beca Media Release

Beca’s win in last night’s ‘WRLMS Investment in People’ category at the Wellington Gold Awards can be put down to teamwork, according to Wellington Regional Manager Michael Kerr.
“The whole office is proud of the win because everyone played a part somewhere along the way,” he says.
"We win a lot of awards for our projects, but to win an award for the investment we make in nurturing, growing and supporting our people means so much more - our people are the heart of our business.
“We sell the experience and skills of a bunch of very clever people but our future growth relies on an ability to recruit and retain them, so the more we focus on developing the careers and skills of our people, the more successful we will be as a business.”
Michael believes that creative thinking is the key to success in a very competitive labour market. “Our office numbers have grown by more than 30 percent since 2006 due to a number of initiatives we put in place across the business.”
He cites targeting overseas talent through employing summer students, an intensive graduate recruitment and development programme and also concentrating on staff retention through innovations like Beca’s Leadership Development Programme, mentor scheme and a recruitment referral incentive as key initiatives.
“We are also increasingly employing part time employees who need to fit in family or study commitments and have in place a number of initiatives to help work-life balance,” he says.
