PRESS RELEASE
Wine Marlborough Board Appoints New Marketing Manager
Wine Marlborough’s
new Marketing Manager has spent his entire working career
within the wine industry and now intends using that
knowledge to develop the Wine Marlborough
brand.
Thirtyfive year old Marcus Pickens was appointed by the board last week and will take up his new position later this month.
With a degree and diploma in Commerce, Marcus first became interested in wine, while still a student. He began his working career with Liquorland specialising in fine wines. Since then he has worked for Montana Wines, Allied Liquor Merchants, Hancocks Wine and Spirits and recently, Glengarry as the Fine Wine Sales Manager.
“Since a teenager the aroma and complexity of wine has always intrigued me,” he says. “It’s a product that is so complex and so unlike anything else in the world. Initially I wanted to learn all I could about wine and now I enjoy passing that information on."
As a wine judge on the New Zealand circuit, Marcus has been involved in a variety of roles, from being a senior judge for Cuisine Magazine, taking part in Hospitality New Zealand seminars and as a judge at the New World Wine Awards.
“I am passionate about wine and through my various roles over the years I have a good understanding of how the industry works. Recently my focus has been French wines, but now I am keen to expand my knowledge of New Zealand wines and the best place to do that is Marlborough. I see my goal as taking these wines out to the world."
Marcus who is married with two preschool children will take up his new position on May 26.
He replaces Tom Trolove who resigned earlier this year.
