Surge in web searches reveals Mothers’ Day treats

If what people are looking for on the internet this week is anything to go by, then kiwi Mums can expect to receive flowers and gift baskets and be taken out for dinner by their appreciative families this Mothers’ Day.

Yellow Pages Group says the number of searches for florists, gift baskets and restaurants on its yellow.co.nz website leading up to Mothers’ Day have surged.

This week’s yellow.co.nz searches for florists were up 77% on normal, searches for gifts / gift shops / gift baskets were up by 33% and restaurant searches were up by 18%.

Yellow Pages Group says that with over 71% of New Zealanders using the internet every month, the searches people are conducting are a useful gauge of people’s behaviour. The company says around 70% of searches performed on yellow.co.nz result in a purchase, which was good news for advertisers on the site.
