Specialist appointment
boosts communications product focus
General Cable New Zealand Ltd has appointed one of the country’s most experienced communications cable specialists to a key new position.
Ross Kay is taking up the role of Product Specialist – Communications at the Christchurch-based cable manufacturer.
He has significant experience across the range of communications products, particularly in fibre optic products, and has worked for a number of years with fibre to the home (FTTH) solutions and fibre network accessories. Ross has also been involved with product lines such as Fujikura Fusion splicers and Corning MDF products, which are used in Telecom exchanges, and has played a leading role in identifying and developing new product lines.
Ross’s experience with fibre optics goes back to his training with the NZ Post Office in the mid-1980s, when he worked on the installation of the country’s first fibre optic network in Wellington.
The new product specialist position has a sales and marketing focus, and is aimed at building the overall communication business, and developing agencies and system solutions for both existing and new customers.
The appointment sees Ross returning to GCNZ after an absence of seven years. Ross started at GCNZ (then MM Cables) in 1989, setting up the Communications Division based in Wellington. He remained with GCNZ in various communications product roles until 2001.
New Zealand Country Manager Andy Lester says the company is delighted to have secured Ross’s extensive knowledge in data and communications. “His ability to identify new products and solutions will be a great fit with General Cable and with our customer base,” Andy says.
