Exclusive Wanaka lodge and vineyard for sale for $8m

13 May 2008: A 17 hectare property near Wanaka featuring an exclusive architecturally-designed, eco-built luxury lodge and a boutique vineyard is up for sale for the first time since it was developed, with a price tag of $8 million plus GST (if any).

Located just five minutes from Wanaka, Zingara lodge is a Qualmark five-star rated lodge set on the 17 hectare Cardrona Terrace Estate, which includes a boutique vineyard producing pinot noir, pinot rose and Riesling.

Being marketed as a going concern by Dan Pinckney of Harcourts Wanaka the property features the six-bedroom eco-built lodge purpose designed and constructed to offer unique, luxury accommodation and plenty of space for functions, in addition to breathtaking views.

Mr Pinckney says the current owners have fulfilled their dream in creating an exquisite home and income in one of New Zealand’s most dramatic and picturesque locations.

“This property really is in a league of its own. The design and construction of the 700m2 lodge is superb, the interior fit-out is exceptional and the setting is amazing. What’s more the property offers a steady income stream from a range of different functions and guests, with the great wines the property produces providing the icing on the cake.

“Popular year-round with a wide range of people and organisations and for all sorts of occasions and events, the privately situated lodge is particularly busy during the deer shooting season, when it hosts a large number of international guests,”Mr Pinckney says. “The owners have also developed a niche market in hosting Continuing Professional Development courses for guests, primarily in the dentistry sector. There’s definitely potential to expand that side of the business, and also to gain a larger share of the other market segments they cater to.“

Mr Pinckney explains Zingara lodge features eco-friendly thermo-mass construction which helps to ensure it is warm in winter and cool in summer. This is supplemented by a wide range of heating options for particularly cold weather. The building also features exposed river shingle aggregate, a copper roof, double-glazing and cedar shutters.

In addition to providing plenty of room for the owner-occupiers the lodge also includes five gorgeous, themed super-King bedrooms for guests, all featuring an exquisite tribal rug. They also each have ensuites, radiant ceiling heating and French doors leading to either a balcony or courtyard, along with spectacular views of the nearby mountains.

The lodge also has a big, modern, well-equipped kitchen and a large dining room with an open wood fire and great indoor/outdoor flow, enabling guests to enjoy a meal indoors or to dine al-fresco in the courtyard outside.

The spacious atrium at the centre of the lodge was designed with weddings and special functions in mind, while a curved staircase leads to a large upstairs lounge with comfortable leather furniture where guests can relax, listen to music, watch TV or DVDs or read a book borrowed from the adjoining library. Both the lounge and library lead out onto a large deck where guests can relax in summer and star gaze at night in any season, or alternatively they can access a ladder to the tower above from which they can enjoy even more spectacular views.

Fitted throughout with dramatic Italian lighting and beautiful artwork the Lodge has a special ambience, complimented by the clean mountain air, breathtaking scenery and tranquil surrounds, which include the working vineyard and plantings of organic herbs, olives and nut trees.

The property also includes an outdoor heated spa pool, two-car garaging and a generous outdoor parking area, a large laundry, a drying room for ski gear, a garden shed and an American-style barn.

In addition to enjoying fine wine and food onsite, lodge guests can make use of gym equipment and mountain bikes, enjoy a game of petanque, some archery or target shooting. Beauty Therapist and aromatherapy massage treatments are available upon request, along with a restaurant and/or activity booking services.
