Success in customary fisheries management training
Over 100 whanau and friends will bulk up the numbers at Motakotako Marae in Kawhia on Saturday, May 17, 2008, as 22 trainees receive the inaugural National Certificate in Seafood Maori (Customary Fishing Management) - Level 4 qualification.
Receiving the certificate caps almost two years of work on the 90-credit programme, leaving each individual as kaitiaki equipped to manage their customary fishing activities within the context of New Zealand Aotearoa's overall fishery resources.
The training was jointly funded by the Seafood Industry Training Organisation and Te Wai Maori (Te Ohu Kaimoana).
Morrie Love, Chairman of Te Wai Maori Trust, Rolly Raureti, General Manager of SITO, and Sid Tuteao, kaumatua from Taharoa, will be presenting the certificates.
