erobertparker.com rates Rockburn 2007 Pinot Noir
Following a visit to New Zealand in January this year, Neal Martin of Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate has awarded a 91/100 rating for the Rockburn 2007 Pinot Noir.
On the Robert Parker scale, a score of 91 indicates “an outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. In short, these are terrific wines.”
After visiting with winemaker Malcolm Rees-Francis and tasting the Rockburn range – including a barrel sample of the 2007 Pinot Noir – Neal Martin commented:
“A barrel sample of the 2007 Pinot Noir shows great promise. Luscious fruit on the nose with doris plum and briery, a sense of minerality that I did not pick up on either the 2006. The palate is medium bodied, very supple and clean with a harmonious finish.”
Says Rees-Francis, “Obviously we are delighted with such a coveted rating, particularly for what was only a barrel sample and also given the remarkably high standard of Pinot Noir coming out of New Zealand.
“Now that this wine is bottled and available on the domestic – and some international – markets, we are hopeful that such positive responses will continue.”
First published in 1978, The Wine Advocate now has a profound effect on both prices and market demand for fine wines around the world. Robert Parker is described as “the most influential wine critic in the world.”
