MIAG Reaches Threshold

PRESS RELEASE

MIAG Reaches Threshold

19 June 2008 - MIAG (Meat Industry Action Group) Chairman John Gregan has stated as of today we have reached the required threshold to request Silver Fern Farms and Alliance Group to hold SGM’s. It has taken longer than first anticipated to reach the required threshold as both cooperatives have different voting structures.

Mr Gregan also said their were some unavoidable and frustrating delays along the way.

At this point we are finalising resolutions to present at these SGM’s and that a formal approach to both cooperatives will be made in due course.
He also says it is especially encouraging that at recent meetings with representatives of Meat and Wool NZ and the taskforce that they reiterated their continuing support for an 80% entity within the NZ red meat industry

The meat industry taskforce has committed to regular communication and consultation with MIAG and other interested parties on the development of the strategic plan for our industry.

Mr Gregan said MIAG in turn are supportive of the strategic plan that Meat & Wool has initiated thus far and look forward to having significant input into the final outcome.

Mr Gregan was elected as MIAG Chairman on Tuesday as previous Chairman Keith Milne had indicated he would need to step down due to overseas travel committments.
