Strong First Half Of 2008 For One News
A strong start to the year coupled with six months of sustained growth has seen ONE News at 6 build its audience across all major demographics, compared with the first half of 2007.
Between 1 January 30 and June 2008, ONE News at 6 increased its substantial lead over 3 News to 234,400 viewers (5+ demographic). This represents audience growth of more than 50,800 viewers for ONE News compared with 2007 figures.
ONE News at 6 consolidated its position as New Zealand's preferred news bulletin in the first six months of 2008. The total average nightly audience for ONE News over this period was 588,000 New Zealanders, compared with the 353,600 who watched TV3.
Strong and consistent growth throughout the first half of the year also saw ONE News grow its younger audience significantly, adding 14,200 viewers in the 25-54 demographic and 21,200 viewers in the 18-49 demographic.
TVNZ Head of News and Current Affairs Anthony Flannery says the consistent growth is a result of hard work and top quality journalism.
"ONE News is produced by a dedicated team who work extremely hard to deliver the best possible news service to New Zealanders, anytime and anywhere," Flannery said.
"The outstanding growth ONE News has experienced this year is the best possible reward for their hard work – and encourages us to redouble our efforts to bring Kiwis the best in journalism."
