Orcon’s Reach To Double Again

Orcon’s Reach To Double Again

Twenty-three suburbs on stream by end of August; new plans announced

Orcon’s roll-out of unbundled high-speed internet and phone services continues with availability in 23 suburbs by the end of August.

Orcon has also unveiled one new plan and updated an existing plan to offer an even wider range of options.

Orcon@Home Silver+ is high-speed broadband and a landline with voicemail, call waiting and caller ID for $79.95 a month. In addition, the data cap on the Naked DSL product, Purple+, will be increased to 15GB from 23 July.

Unbundling of the 10 additional suburbs more than doubles the number of households who can get LLU broadband and phone services.

All those who sign up for Orcon@Home+ also get a card that gives them two-for-one movies at SkyCity cinemas. The card is valid for a year, and can be used as many times as people like.*

Orcon’s service is now available to subscribers in St Heliers, Glen Eden, Massey and Mt Roskill and during the next seven weeks Forrest Hill, Devonport, Avondale, New Lynn, Te Atatu and Three Kings come on stream.

Unbundling means phone and broadband customers in the six new exchange areas can sign up for Orcon’s next generation broadband and unlimited national phone calls – and experience high-speed broadband as it should be.

Called Orcon@Home+, the company’s unbundled telephone and ADSL2+ broadband network was initially launched to customers via five Auckland exchanges in March.

Orcon was the first telecommunications provider to introduce new phone and internet plans following the Government’s decision in late 2006 to ‘unbundle’ the local loop, the copper wires that link homes to their neighbourhood exchanges.

Chief Executive Scott Bartlett says: “It is plain that people are really keen to get on to the next-gen network. And once on-board they tell us how the extra speed makes the world of difference when surfing the net and downloading videos.”

Orcon’s new unbundled ADSL2+ service has the potential to deliver speeds of up to 24 megabits per second (Mbps) downstream and up to 1 Mbps upstream [1], roughly tripling the downstream bandwidth capacity of standard ADSL1. ADSL1 is the common existing broadband standard in New Zealand.

Orcon has four plans, all of which include “world class” broadband. The main plans offer unlimited toll calls in New Zealand, and the ultimate package includes unlimited overseas calls to one of 15 countries of the subscriber’s choice.

Orcon manages the entire switching process for customers including notifying people’s previous ISP of their move to Orcon, ensuring the whole process is seamless.

There is no minimum contract period with subscribers billed monthly and Orcon says its customers are capable of saving hundreds of dollars a year.

*The only condition of the card is that it’s not valid for “complimentary only” movies, which is for the first week of the movie.
