September’s GT Radial Speedshow will have an added dimension with news that TVNZ’s top-rating motorsport show, Powerbuilt Tools Motorsport, will broadcast live from the venue on Sunday 21 September.
The show’s executive producer David Turner put the project together with Speedshow organiser Keith Sharp, and confirms the show will be hosted live between 3 and 6pm that day from a specially-built Powerbuilt Tools Motorsport set.
Speedshow, a unique motorsport expo developed by Sharp, took place for the first time in 2007 at the TelstraClear Pacific Event Centre in Manukau City. After the successful and popular inaugural event, Sharp stepped up, moving Speedshow to the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland’s Greenlane for the 2008 incarnation.
“When David Turner first approached us after last year’s GT Radial Speedshow, I immediately thought this would be a fantastic addition to the expo,” says Sharp, a former performance driving instructor and race driver. “There’s no doubt Powerbuilt Tools Motorsport is a highly regarded sports programme and, with its dedicated focus on motorsport in New Zealand and around the world, we naturally share the same audience of motorsport fans.”
Turner, who has been at the helm of Powerbuilt Tools Motorsport since the show’s inception ten years ago, says he’s delighted for Television New Zealand and Powerbuilt Tools Motorsport to be involved in a great expo.
“After attending the first show last year, I thought what a great idea it would be to get together with Keith and his team to produce our show from Speedshow in 2008,” comments Turner.
“The bringing together of so many aspects of motorsport under one roof for the fans over a weekend is an outstanding concept. It proves how vastly popular this sport has become in New Zealand and also how well supported motorsport, as whole is.
“As the leading weekly motorsport programme on television, there was no way we didn’t want to be there as well.
“It’s a wonderful thing that Keith and the entire GT Radial Speedshow team have put together and I am very proud to have Powerbuilt Tools Motorsport broadcast live from the venue on the Sunday. It will be a fantastic way to wrap up Speedshow, being the last three hours of the expo, and an excellent venue for Powerbuilt Tools Motorsport with a huge array of guests readily accessible.”
The 2008 GT Radial Speedshow features a wide array of products, teams, drivers and cars associated with all forms of motorsport, including circuit racing, car clubs, rallying, off-roading and speedway. The Exide showcase of a selection of the cars Ken Smith has raced during his 50 consecutive seasons of motor racing will be a key feature.
The expo website, www.speedshow.co.nz, is updated frequently with news of displays, live action, and the wide range of motorsport-related businesses exhibiting at Speedshow 2008.
