Design Skills, Life Cycle Tools and Approaches
DINZ Invitation to Design Skills and Design Assembly
DINZ:
Design Skills, Life Cycle Tools and Approaches –
Implementing change
3rd and final workshop
The ‘Life Cycle Thinking’ workshop series has been gaining momentum over the past two months, initially engaging participants in the process of Life Cycle Thinking and building on this to illustrate the application of Life Cycle Management in a development context during the second workshop.
Cris de Groot from the Hothouse and Timothy Allan from Locus Research have led regional workshops in both Wellington and Christchurch which has further extended the reach of the series.
Participants have been stimulated by the innovative workshop formats stating they “thought the day was well crafted and very motivational" and that “It was good that the day was broken up into the 4 sections. I was never bored".
The third and final workshop in the series will be held on the 7th of August and covers the use of different tools, methods, and approaches for Life Cycle Thinking. The emphasis will be on the workshop sessions to build the understanding of how to apply life cycle thinking with practical presentations aimed at building a better understanding of new tools and techniques. Visit http://www.thinkingdesign.co.nz/life_cycle_tools.html for a full programme.
Speakers include some of the leading
practitioners in the country such as Barbara Nebel (Scion),
Sarah McLaren (Landcare Research) and Robbie Andrew
(Landcare Research), Timothy Allan (Locus Research) and Jake
McLaren (Formway).
The presentations will round off the
Life Cycle Thinking series by providing an overview of life
cycle thinking approaches such as Life Cycle Assessment,
Carbon foot-printing (greenhouse gas accounting) and
Economic Input Output Modelling, in addition it will also
present and explain some useful software tools that can be
used in the development process.
The accompanying series of articles published in the ‘Focus on Sustainability’ section of the April, June and August issues of Prodesign can be referenced as an introduction to the workshop topics and have been written as a primer to engage designers in life cycle thinking.
