Business And Lifestyle Opportunity That Rocks

A property has just gone on the market offering what many say they want – a thriving business supporting an enviable lifestyle in the sun at the top of the South Island.

“Eatery On The Rock” is situated on the main highway about a kilometre from Takaka and near the beaches and attractions of Golden Bay. It is a restaurant, specialised accommodation and art gallery/studio, combined into a successful business venture.

Specialist business broker Mary Donovan of Simes Limited says she regularly gets would-be buyers asking her to find them a business opportunity away from the rat-race and this time she says she has it.

“This is a great little business in a great situation - in fact I could say it rocks!” she says. “The dominant feature of the property is that it is mostly limestone rocky outcrops, which have been used to provide a beautiful outlook as well as privacy for each of the five separate units.

“The current owners live on site and operate the restaurant and accommodation for events, conferences and casual visitors. They say it gives them the perfect lifestyle, but they now have to move back to a city for family reasons.”

The property is being sold as a freehold going concern, with all nine buildings (five units, owner’s residence, manager’s residence, restaurant and art gallery/studio) built of low maintenance materials, including lots of natural timber. Water comes from a spring on the property and gets compliments from visitors who drink it – plus the benefit of no water charges from local bodies.

Current owners Chris and Pat also run the business – Chris is a qualified chef who runs the restaurant and catering, Pat looks after the accommodation and functions, weddings and business meetings held on site.

They both say the business is developing steadily and their plans to expand it could easily be progressed by new owners.

“Eatery On The Rock” currently covers about 1.3 hectares, is zoned Rural 1, is supported by an accommodation network and is on the market for $1.8M.
