Tourism Auckland secures funding for sustainable ventures

Tourism Auckland wins bid for Sustainable Tourism Advisers in Regions (STAR) funding.

Tourism Minister Damien O’Connor announced that Tourism Auckland is to receive $88,000 over three years for the implementation and delivery of sustainability advisory services to tourism businesses in the Auckland region.  Auckland is one of nine regions to receive STAR funding to work with tourism operators to reduce the impact on the environment.

Tourism Auckland chief executive Graeme Osborne said he was delighted the region will receive government funding to help increase sustainable tourism.

“As sustainability is vital for our industry’s future, the STAR initiative will certainly help us strengthen our sustainability effort and allow us to dedicate more time and resources to support our region’s operators.” Osborne says.

The STAR programme contributes to an important outcome of the New Zealand Tourism Strategy 2015, that the tourism sector takes a leading role in protecting and enhancing New Zealand’s environment.
