New ‘Land and Life Award’ To Feature in Farm Environment Awards
The 2009 Ballance Farm
Environment Awards will feature a new category known as the
Land and Life award.
Sponsored by PGG Wrightson, this award focuses on the all-important people-side of the farming business.
“Entrants will be assessed on their personal beliefs and their pride and passion for the land and their community,” says PGG Wrightson sponsorship manager Hazel Barrer.
“The judges will also be looking at the relationship the entrants share with the agribusiness people who provide advice and support to their businesses.”
Operating in eight regions, the annual Ballance Farm Environment Awards promote sustainable land management and are organised by the New Zealand Farm Environment Awards (NZFEA) Trust.
PGG Wrightson’s association with the awards started in 2005 when the company took on the sponsorship of the Habitat Improvement Award.
Hazel Barrer says the new Land and Life Award is a great fit.
“The sense of community spirit and pride and passion for the land that this award recognises is shared and highly valued by our company. Couple this with the applicants’ desire to surround themselves with advice and support from leaders in the industry – and we have a perfect match.”
NZFEA general manager David Natzke says the new award sits well with the other award categories and makes for a better award mix. “It’s a great way for PGG Wrightson to continue its support of the awards and we are certainly thrilled to have companies of this calibre on board.”
Hazel Barrer says PGG Wrightson regards the Ballance Farm Environment Awards as great opportunity to recognise the efforts that many farmers put into protecting the environment
She says PGG Wrightson encourages farmers to “take part in these awards, reap the benefits of their work and share their success story with others”.
David Natzke says NZFEA will start looking for a new sponsor for the Habitat Improvement Award soon.
