Well-known Canterbury horse stud for
sale
27 August 2008 – Croftlea, a well-known North Canterbury horse stud, is for sale for the first time since it was established, with good interest expected from a range of buyers, including horse lovers.
In a prime location in the increasingly popular rural community of Oxford, Croftlea has an established reputation for “sports horses” used for dressage, eventing and showjumping, with the names of a number of top stallions becoming synonymous with the property over the years.
Being marketed by Read Woolman of Harcourts Vision Real Estate Ltd’s Bishopdale office, Croftlea is close to the centre of Oxford, which offers a wide range of recreational and leisure activities and is a popular stop on the Inland Scenic Route 72, and around 40 minutes drive northwest of Christchurch.
Being sold due to “an unexpected change in direction” for the owners the unique property offers a fantastic lifestyle opportunity, particularly for anyone into horses, according to Mr Woolman.
“For a horse lover, either established or budding, it offers the chance to acquire a property that has been extremely well set up for them to enjoy and potentially prosper from, while for other lifestyle property buyers there’s plenty of potential to make alternative use of this well-located, flat-to-rolling land and the buildings on site.”
Mr Woolman explains that the recently sub-divided 7.3 hectare property features a five bedroom home and a range of purpose built facilities and buildings.
“For training purposes the owners had installed a large showjumping and dressage arena, built on a limestone base and filled with river sand to ensure it is suitable for use in all weather, year-round,” Mr Woolman says.
“In addition they have built a nine box breeze barn, with direct access to a stallion yard. There’s also a spacious tack shed, a workshop and storage rooms, together with a three-bay hay barn. In addition there are a number of holding yards and numerous easily-accessed paddocks, all electric fenced and with their own water supply.”
The brick homestead meanwhile, features five bedrooms (four double and one single), two bathrooms, a modern kitchen and generous living areas opening onto a large veranda.
“What’s more it’s beautifully positioned to receive maximum sun and is surrounded by lush lawn and established gardens, with mature trees providing maximum shelter.”
Situated at 63 Bush Road, Oxford, Croftlea is for sale by negotiation with an asking price of $685,000 + GST.
As Mr Woolman explains the owners will also consider selling the adjoining 4.1295 hectares, which they recently sub-divided off the main title.
