Contact Files For Waitahora Wind Farm Concent

Contact files consent application for Waitahora wind farm

Contact Energy today filed resource consent applications with the Tararua District Council for its 177 megawatt Waitahora wind farm located south-east of Dannevirke.

Located on part of the Puketoi Range, the Waitahora wind farm will contain up to 65 turbines and will generate enough renewable electricity to power around 86,000 homes per year.

Contact Energy Chief Executive David Baldwin said the site was ideal for a wind farm.

“The site has a good wind resource and is very remote, minimising the visual impact of the project,” he said.

“This is a very good wind farm project that will provide clean, renewable electricity for current and future generations, as well as local benefits for the area.”

Mr Baldwin said Contact has been pleased with the level of support for the project.

Now that the technical reports that comprise the resource consent application have been completed, they are available at www.contactenergy.co.nz/waitahorawind.

This information will allow further and more detailed consultation to take place with interested parties.
