Further 32
turbines ordered for TRH wind farm
Windflow Technology has received a further order from the Te Rere Hau (TRH) Joint Venture for the 32 turbines required to complete the initial TRH wind farm near Palmerston North.
This brings the number of Windflow 500 turbines ordered for the initial TRH wind farm to 97 (48.5 MW), the total planned under the original contract and resource consent.
Stage 1, consisting of five Windflow 500 wind turbines, was installed in 2006 and Stage 2 is under construction with 28 towers and turbines currently being installed and commissioned. The 32 Stage 3 turbines previously ordered are being produced at Windflow Technology’s nacelle factory in Christchurch and will be delivered to the wind farm for installation during 2009, followed by the 32 Stage 4 turbines represented by the latest order.
“This is very good news for Windflow as it will enable us to continue the growth in momentum we are developing as a fully-fledged manufacturer”, said CEO Geoff Henderson. "The final profitability of this order will not be known until further through the component procurement process. A single batch of 32 turbines, where previously the confirmations have been at most 16 at a time, will enable us to achieve some quantity production efficiencies and build momentum amongst all our sub-suppliers."
The Windflow 500 turbine is designed by a team of professional engineers led by Windflow Technology director and CEO Geoff Henderson. It includes patented, world-first technology that brings competitive advantages and cost efficiency in comparison to other models of wind turbine available.
More than 90% of the components of the Windflow 500 turbines are sourced from locally owned and operated manufacturing companies and provide significant work for New Zealanders throughout the country.
