Plastic Industry Design Award Winners Announced
This year’s winners of the 2008 Plastics Industry Bi-Annual Design Awards were announced at a Gala Dinner held at the Ellerslie Event Centre in Auckland on Friday (3rd October). Prime Minister Helen Clark was in attendance to present this year’s awards.
The 2008 awards attracted 37 entries, reflecting the industry’s reputation as one of New Zealand’s most innovative sectors. In total, Awards were presented on the night - 16 Bronze, 15 Silver, 15 Gold, and the Overall Supreme Award.
This years Supreme Award was won by Methven Ltd with their Tahi Shower System, which also took out three Gold Awards in the Consumer Products, Conventional Injection Moulding, and Tool Making Categories.
Product Category Gold Award winners on the night included Alto Packaging Ltd for their Eternal Water Range in the Food & Beverage Category, Gallagher Group for their Smart Reader HR3 in the Primary Category, Airform International Ltd for their Varian 900 Series in the Industrial Category, Talbot Plastics Ltd for their Kaynemaile: Reward of the Rings, Sealed Air (New Zealand) for their Cartonless Cheese Pouch (20kg) in the Environmental Category.
Process Category Gold Award winners on the night included Talbot Plastics Ltd for their VB Portable Vibration Analyser in the Co-Moulded Injection Moulding Category, Alto Packaging Ltd for their PET Flask (305ml) in the Blow Moulding Category, Airform International Ltd for their Varian 900 Series in the Thermoforming Category, Plastic Rotational Moulding Ltd for their Niwa Fish Measuring Station in the Rotational Moulding Category, Acma Industries Ltd for their Kradal Flooring in the Foams Category. Bronze was the highest award in the Films & Laminations Category; it was awarded to Totel Ltd for their Reusable Shopping Bag.
Other Category Gold Award winners on the night included Sealed Air (New Zealand) for their Cartonless Cheese Pouch (20kg) in the Environmental Achievement Category, Premier Plastics for their PizBuin Sunband in the Export Category.
Many of this year’s winners are for world-first products developed with leading-edge technology.
“These Awards recognise those members who are transforming the way in which Plastics are perceived in the market”, Plastics New Zealand CEO Robin Martin said. “We congratulate all of the entrants and the winners in the 2008 Design Awards on their superb entries and look to them as drivers of this transformation, through their product and process innovation, design technology and entrepreneurial spirit that is leading the way forward”.
