Meat & Wool New Zealand congratulates winning New Zealand shearers and woolhandlers
Meat & Wool New Zealand is delighted with news overnight that the New Zealand team at the World Shearing and Woolhandling Championships in Norway has won four world titles.
Meat & Wool New Zealand Chairman, Mike Petersen said the New Zealand shearers and woolhandlers had made the New Zealand sheep industry proud.
“Four world records is an incredible achievement and this performance is a great start to the 2008/2009 competition season here in New Zealand, where it will no doubt inspire those in the industry to perform at a high level.”
Meat & Wool New Zealand is pleased to be a sponsor of Shearing Sports New Zealand that has supported the New Zealanders participating at the world championships.
“The work of Shearing Sports New Zealand plays a critical role in maintaining the quality standards of our wool harvesting industry and these results show our shearers and woolhandlers are some of the best in the world.”
Paul Avery and John Kirkpatrick were first and second respectively in the machine-shearing final. They went on to take out the team title. Sheree Alabaster won the woolhandling title and she and Joanne Kumeroa went on to win the team event.
