Auckland Airport welcomes Jetstar to NZ’s gateway

Auckland Airport welcomes Jetstar to New Zealand’s gateway

Auckland Airport welcomes the announcement today by Jetstar that it is launching new trans-Tasman services out of Auckland.

Jetstar will operate daily return services between Auckland and Sydney and between Auckland and Gold Coast starting 28 April 2009*.

Auckland Airport chief executive officer, Simon Moutter said, “We are delighted to have Jetstar commence services from Auckland. This announcement supports the strong potential for growth in the trans-Tasman market, and will ensure New Zealand’s gateway continues to serve demand for travel to and from our closest neighbours”.

Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Bruce Buchanan said: “Jetstar expects to take a price leadership position on our new Auckland routes and will provide even greater choice for travellers. We are committed to offering the lowest fares on the trans-Tasman market.”
The two new daily Jetstar trans-Tasman services equate to an additional 258,000 seats on offer each year.

Jetstar, the low cost carrier and a fully owned subsidiary of the Qantas Group, will be the first in the Group to offer a direct Auckland to Gold Coast service. Jetstar operates a number of services out of Christchurch Airport.
