Charges laid over Taranaki baler accident
The Department of Labour today laid charges against LGC Limited, trading as Taranaki Recyclers, over an accident on April 22 2008, when an employee had his legs amputated when he fell into an automatic baler press.
Two charges were laid in the New Plymouth District Court under the Health and Safety in Employment Act.
They are that the company failed to take all practicable steps to ensure the safety of an employee, and that it failed to ensure there were effective methods in place for the systematic identification of existing hazards.
Each charge carries a maximum penalty of $250,000.
No date has yet been set for hearing the case.
