Sacred Hill Helmsman considered a premium wine by top wine critiques
The renowned Scenic Cellars Bordeaux and Gimblett Gravels tasting took place in Taupo during the weekend (19th October), and named the Sacred Hill Helmsman wine as one of the top six in the tasting.
Australian wine industry legend James Halliday blind tasted and selected six Gimblett Gravel wines to go into a comparative tasting with six Bordeaux wines, all from the 2005 vintage. Halliday alongside wine writers, including the New York based Elin McCoy, who writes for Bloombergs and is an authority on Bordeaux, tasted all the wines blind in one flight of 12 wines.
The Sacred Hill Helmsman was ranked in the top six. The top wines in order were:
Blake Family Vineyards
Chateaux Lafite-Rothschild
Sacred Hill Helmsman
Mills Reef Elspeth
Chateau Mouton Rothschild
Trinity Hill The Gimblett
“This is fantastic news. Of the top six wines, four were from the Gimblett Gravels. It’s great to be able to produce a wine with such an impressive pedigree and one that is held in such high esteem,” says Sacred Hill Chief Winemaker Tony Bish.
Sacred Hill Helmsman is available nationwide from all fine wine retailers.
