Wellington Airport Supports Better Links To Region

Wellington International Airport supports the Wellington Regional Transport Committee’s approval of the blueprint for upgrading the transport corridor from Ngauranga to the Airport.

The Airport submitted in favour of a flyover around the Basin Reserve and extra tunnels at Mount Victoria and the Terrace which have been adopted in the Corridor Plan.

“Recent independent forecasting has projected more than a doubling of airport users over the next 20 years from 5 million passengers per annum. Long term infrastructure plans must be in advance of regional growth,” said Steven Fitzgerald, CEO.

“However, the existing problem of congestion between the central business district and the Airport at rush hour also needs more immediate solutions. The advancement of work on a rapid busway route and bus priority would result in a better public transport corridor between the city and the Airport,” he said.
