Green Globe Status for Crowne Plaza Auckland
NEWS RELEASE
Green Globe Status for Crowne Plaza Auckland
Auckland, 31 October 2008 – Efforts to
improve the environmentally friendly practices of Crowne
Plaza Auckland staff and guests have been recognised by one
of the most prestigious eco-accreditation bodies in the
world, with the New Zealand hotel’s achievement of the
Green Globe Benchmark.
Crowne Plaza Auckland was awarded Green Globe status thanks to its property-wide eco-friendly initiatives, involving both staff and guests in the pursuit for an environmentally and socially sustainable future for the hotel.
Environmentally friendly procedures in place in the hotel include reducing the hotel’s water use, elimination of pesticide use on the property, using water efficient shower heads in guest rooms, recycling paper in the hotel offices, reducing guest laundry levels and using eco-friendly chemicals and laundry detergents.
“We have been working hard to reduce the hotel’s environmental impact for quite some time. To have our efforts recognised by an independent body of Green Globe’s reputation is fantastic,” says Terry Holt, Crowne Plaza Auckland, Business Development Director.
“We are proud to have achieved this benchmark level and will continue to strive towards achieving higher accreditation by improving on the systems already in place. Ultimately, our goal is to reach Green Globe Gold Status.
“We are aware that minimising the hotel’s impact on the environment is important and something that our guests expect of us. Feedback from our guests on the achievements to date has been encouraging, and we’ve received a lot of support from regular patrons who are keen to actively participate in our eco-friendly initiatives,” Holt says.
