Golden Year For Mission Estate Winery

-2007 vintage receives widespread acclaim -

Mission Estate Winery is celebrating a golden year of achievements with the 2007 vintage receiving widespread acclaim.

The winery's Syrah and Chardonnay ranges have performed exceptionally well with each variety scooping four major awards in the past year.

Mission Estate Chief Winemaker, Paul Mooney says the Mission Estate team are very proud of their achievements.

"It's fantastic to see our wines performing so well in local and international competitions, particularly as we are a relatively small winery" says Mr Mooney.

"One major highlight this year was the huge success of our wines at the prestigious Sydney International Wine Awards, which proves we produce exceptional, food friendly wines which complete a meal without competing against it.

"We were also very pleased to have our 2007 Mission Reserve Syrah recognised in Michael Cooper's Buyer's Guide to New Zealand Wines 2009, which is seen as the wine bible by many New Zealanders."

The 2007 Mission Reserve Syrah was named by influential New Zealand wine writer, Michael Cooper, as the 'best wine buy' and 'best red wine' for 2009. The wine has also recently won a Pure Gold medal at the 2008 Air New Zealand Wine Awards and a Blue Gold medal at the 2008 Sydney International Wine Awards.

The 2007 Mission Jewelstone Syrah has also been recognised this year with a coveted Blue Gold/Top 100 Award at the Sydney International Wine Awards 2008.

Mission's 2007 Reserve Chardonnay has received a Blue Gold / Top 100 Award at the Sydney International Wine Awards and a Gold Medal at the Liquorland Top 100 International Wine Competition 2008. The 2007 Mission Vineyard Selection Chardonnay received a Gold Medal at the New Zealand International Wine Show 2008.

Other Mission Estate Winery wines to receive recent recognition include: the 2007 Reserve Viognier (Blue Gold/Top 100 Award at the Sydney International Wine Awards 2007, a Gold Medal at the Liquorland Top 100 International Wine Competition 2007 and 4 Stars from Wine State 2008); the 2007 Mission Jewelstone Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Petit (Gold Medal in the 2008 Air New Zealand Wine Awards); and the 2007 Mission Estate Cabernet Merlot (received 4 ½ stars from Wine State 2008).
