The Japanese judges lauded the Citroen C5 for its interior space, the quality of its design and its sophisticated suspension and in the overall judging placed the Citroen ahead of ‘Godzilla’, the Nissan GT-R.

The presentation of the Semperit Irish Car of the Year award to Citroen was just the start of the awards, with the new Citroen Berlingo picking up the prize as Semperit Irish Van of the Year. As well as the overall title, the Citroen C5 took the title of Irish family car of the year and the new Citroen Berlingo Multispace was named People Mover of the year. Completing the awards presented to Citroen was the title of Semperit Irish SUV Van of the Year going to the Citroen C-Crosser Commercial.

These awards come hard on the heels of Citroen’s unique 1-2 win in the International Van of the Year awards, where the Citroen Dispatch and Nemo vans dominated the voting.

The Citroen C5 is on sale in New Zealand now with prices starting from $56,990, while the new Berlingo will arrive in New Zealand in 2009.
