“Go For
It!” Say Top Graduates
The Agriculture Industry Training Organisation’s top poultry graduates of 2008 have some advice for anyone considering studying for a qualification – “if you can and you want to, go for it!”
Debbie Fisher of Inghams Enterprises and Chris Navarro of Tegel Foods Ltd were recognized as 2008’s Trainees of the Year at an industry function in Auckland on Monday.
Debbie Fisher has worked for Inghams Enterprises since finishing high school, and now manages 120 staff in Inghams’ breeding operations as the Breeder Manager. She was awarded the prize for her work on the Level 4 Production Management qualification.
“What I like about the poultry industry is that there’s so much variation! There’s always something new to learn,” Debbie said. “If you get an opportunity to do training like this, take it with both hands!
“A lot of people are initially put off by the idea of training if they left school some time ago, but I encourage them to get back into it and go for it!”
Chris Navarro works in the livestock division at Tegel Foods Ltd, and is regarded as an extremely valuable asset to the team by his manager, Wayne Parlane. Chris was awarded Trainee of the Year for his work on the Level 3 Poultry Husbandry qualification, and is now undertaking Level 4 Production Management training.
Michael Brooks, Executive Director of the Poultry Industry Association, was proud of what Debbie and Chris have achieved. “The qualifications offered by Agriculture ITO are a great passport into an industry with lots of potential,” he said.
