Jaguar XF Wins NBR Car of the Year

Following much international acclaim the Jaguar XF was finally launched to the New Zealand public in May of this year and has already been awarded the coveted National Business Review overall Car of the Year.

Wallis Dumper, the Managing Director Jaguar New Zealand said “It’s fantastic an award is coming home so soon to the XF in New Zealand, where it is outselling competitors such as the BMW 5 series and Mercedes E class, in its market segment. This is a great reward in return for that performance.”

NBR has made no apologies for its selection: “This newspaper does not apologise for choosing a relatively expensive car for this accolade. We are a business newspaper and web service, and so our deliberations for this award always see us cast our net around the upper executive end of the car market…. This year the best fish in the net was the XF.”

“The Jaguar brand has been through positive change and is now in the ownership of a true automotive enthusiast, the Tata Motors ltd. While many other brands are in turmoil Jaguar is now settled – but it’s easy to be settled when you make such a great product,” said Mr Dumper.

The Jaguar XF is available in four engine variants – the 2.7 litre TDV6, 3.0 V6, 4.2 V8 and 4.2 SV8 (supercharged). The majority of sales to-date has been for the diesel engine, which has introduced a whole new breed of owner to the Jaguar brand.

“While the TDV6 is most popular amongst our customers, the 4.2 V8 and SV8 are true high performance beautiful fast cars,” said Mr Dumper. “The Jaguar XF has appealed to both the traditional Jaguar owners and the first time Jaguar buyers who have changed brands.”

“That epitomises the kiwis that are buying the new Jaguar. It is a great feeling to park in the corporate carpark and know your car is not going to get lost in a sea of look-a-likes differentiated mainly by a badge. Jaguar is unique. This NBR accolade endorses that.”

NBR motoring editor Peter Gill said: “What you do know, is that here is a car that has made that primeval scream. It wanted to escape form the platinum greyness of top end Teutonic sedans and to be different. And it is…. It measures up as a very good price proposition against all its competitors.”

The recommended retail price of a Jaguar XF ranges from $114,990 to $169,990.
