Westpac Moves to Britomart – New Building Opens

Tuesday 9 December, 2008

Westpac Moves to Britomart – New Building Officially Open

Westpac on Takutai Square officially opened for work yesterday, with 145 people from Westpac’s Collections and Specialist Banking Unit teams starting work in Westpac’s new Britomart Precinct headquarters.

The remaining teams will move in February and March 2009, when approximately 650 Westpac New Zealand staff will take up residence in the new Westpac building in Auckland’s CBD. The teams are migrating from the suburbs of Onehunga, Penrose and Manukau.

“We’ve been planning this move for months,” said Westpac’s Head of Properties, Murray Dobson.  “It’s fantastic to see it finally come to fruition. Westpac on Takutai Square will bring all our people together in an environment which will stimulate teamwork and co-operation.”

The frontage of the new Westpac building is the historic Charter House, which has been refitted to give the building a modern mixed with classic feel. The building was blessed last Wednesday by Ngati Whatua o Orakei.

Each of the seven floors of the new Westpac building are themed according to the different strata of the land – from the strong earthy hues of the tectonic plates to the deep blues of the sea, the sandy tones of the foreshore and dunes, through to the many greens of the forest and high country, ending on the seventh floor with fresh colours of the mountains. The colour palettes are rich and vibrant and give each floor a unique character.

The second stage of the Westpac building is currently under construction in Takutai Square, and will be completed mid 2011. The two buildings will be connected through airbridges, and will function as one complete building.

Westpac will be holding an Open Day for staff and family on Saturday 13 December, with around 1200 people expected to visit the new premises.
