Gull Champions Sustainability
Perth / Auckland, 13 January 2008 – Gull New Zealand announced today it had created a new senior position focused solely on sustainability.
“Karl Mischewski’s appointment as Sustainability Champion is further proof of our commitment to finding sustainable alternatives to traditional fuels such as petrol and diesel”, says Wayne Ferrell, Chief Executive Gull Petroleum.
“It’s the right thing to do. Gull has long been behind initiatives to reduce reliance on hydrocarbon based fuels and we are determined to be a leader in contributing to developing alternative and sustainable forms of energy.
“Sustainability is a major focus for Gull’s business on both sides of the Tasman.
“Reducing our dependence on petroleum and finding sustainable alternatives is not easy but with commitment and vision you can get there.
“Even though Gull is a small family owned business with limited resources, compared to the oil giants, we have been a first-mover in the transport sectors of both New Zealand and Australia through the introduction of low sulphur diesel and biofuels.”
With Karl’s appointment and an even greater focus on sustainability as demonstrated by Gull’s signing of the Poznan communiqué, we plan to continue that leadership.”
The Poznan communiqué comes from the business leaders of over 140 global companies and was issued during The United Nations Climate Change Conference in December 2008 in Poznań, Poland. It recognises that to tackle climate change we must deliver reductions in greenhouse gas emissions to mitigate severe effects. It also emphasises that climate change is too complex to address with a single approach, and crucially, it also provides business with the certainty and frameworks it needs to scale up global investment in low-carbon technologies.
