TV Advertising Holds Up Well Despite Recession

MEDIA RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Television Advertising Holds Up Well Despite Recession

Total television revenue for 2008 held up well at $647.2 million, a slight drop from the $654.4 million achieved in 2007. The drop of $7.2 million (1.1%) was not unexpected given the current worldwide economic climate.

Although the first half of 2008 showed growth of 3.1%, the second half of the year saw advertisers responding to a weaker worldwide economy and this resulted in shrinkage of $16.2 million (4.4%).

With viewers turning to television more than ever before it is clear that television remains the most effective medium for reaching and influencing consumers.

Revenue figures are sourced from returns prepared by TVNZ, MediaWorks TV and SKY Network Television (including Prime).
