Mentoring To Help Businesses Weather Tough Times

Media Release

Date: Friday, 30th January

New Ad Campaign Shows How Mentoring Can Help Small Business Owners Deal With Tougher Times

Business Mentors New Zealand, the county’s only not for profit business mentoring service, is getting ready to launch a new national marketing campaign to emphasise how easy it is for owners of small to medium businesses to apply for mentoring support.

The campaign includes a 30 second television commercial, which will be shown on TVNZ and TV3, from Sunday, 1st February.

Business Mentors client registrations for January 09 are up 37% from January last year. However, Ray Schofield, CEO of Business Mentors New Zealand, hopes that the campaign will raise awareness and drive even more business owners to take advantage of the mentoring service:

‘The aim of this new marketing and advertising initiative is to let Kiwi business owners know that they don’t have to tackle their problems alone,’ explains Ray. ‘We have 1,572 independent volunteer mentors throughout both the North and South Islands, from a wide range of business backgrounds, who are keen to share their skills and knowledge with others.

‘Many small business owners do not realise that all they need to do to access this valuable resource is to sign-up on the Business Mentors website and pay a $100 registration fee.’

The ad features a husband and wife small business team. Their lives are depicted as being something of an uphill struggle, this metaphor brought into reality through the use of a specially constructed office set that was built on hydraulic rams and tilted at a 45 degree angle. The advertisement shows how, by applying online for a business mentor, life can become a lot less arduous.

The television commercial was created by renowned advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi and overseen by award winning director, Chris Dudman. Advertising will also include targeted radio spots, print and online advertising. Public relations support will be provided by Intermediary Communications.

Ray Schofield is CEO of Business Mentors New Zealand. Business Mentors is a fully funded service of Business in the Community and can be contacted at www.businessmentors.org.nz.
