Queenstown’s a hot spot for conferences

A favourable exchange rate, easy access, fantastic convention infrastructure and all the attractions of Australasia’s premier four season lake and alpine resort means Queenstown New Zealand has an unprecedented offering for Australian conference and incentive buyers.

Queenstown Convention Bureau Manager Kylie Brittain says she’s expecting to talk business with many buyers at AIME (Asia-Pacific Incentives and Meetings Expo) to be held in Melbourne later this month (17 – 18 February).

“The conventions and incentive segment of the tourism industry will continue to be a major growth market in 2009/2010. The sinking NZ exchange rate and high prices of heading to the Northern Hemisphere is making New Zealand increasingly viable as an exciting international destination for Australian companies who need to meet and want to incentivise staff despite the global downturn.”

"These factors mean we’re strategically planning our AIME presence to make sure we are available to everyone who is interested in Queenstown. The key for us will be to have enough personnel available throughout the expo and quality collateral to support our sales pitch,” she said.

AIME brings together international destinations and international convention buyers. It’s the place where people from around the world learn about destinations and make conferencing plans. This year 850 exhibitors from 50 countries are expected and hosted buyers number 500 from 30 countries.

Queenstown will be represented by Kylie Brittain and Jana Kingston from the Queenstown Convention Bureau – a division of Destination Queenstown.
