FILM AUCKLAND Brings Experts Together for Crisis Talks
Forum: Managing Our Business through the Financial Crisis
Film Auckland
announces a special forum on March 3 for businesses and
self-employed freelancers operating in the screen industry.
The industry marketing and liaison organization has
assembled a line-up of financial and legal experts to
discuss business issues arising from the financial crisis.
Intended as a practical advice session, the forum will be moderated by leading financial commentator Rod Oram, who will also give an overview address on recession and the entertainment industry.
Keynote speaker is Benedikte Jensen, research director of the New Zealand Institute, who will discuss the current state of global investment and possible effects on screen industry financing. Jensen was formerly in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, where she was economic and financial adviser to Prime Minister Helen Clark. Before that, she spent eight years in Treasury where her most recent role was as director of tax policy.
Michael Langdon and Sean C Gollin, partners in law firm Minter Ellison Rudd Watts and a senior accountant from Ernst & Young will provide practical information on ways of protecting and planning for business survival so that businesses can ensure they are set up in the best way to work through current problems.
Film Auckland executive manager Michael Brook says, “We are aware of deepening concern amongst our members about the economic situation and Film Auckland is well-positioned to provide this free forum, since part of our brief is to build and maintain business capability and skills in the screen industry.
“We hope that bringing together this brilliant group of experts, in conjunction with the entrepreneurial nature of our audience, will spark some creative ideas for the business side of our industry.”
