Pinot Beauty In A Bottle
(Feb 09 Issue Conde Nast
Traveller, New York)
On a recent visit to New
Zealand with his family Conde Nast travel writer Chang-rae
Lee explored each of New Zealand’s wine growing regions
from Waiheke Island in the north to Central Otago in the far
south sampling the varieties that distinguish New Zealand
wine. The intention was to tour the vineyards, play some
golf as well as eat their way across the landscape on their
first visit to New Zealand.
The writers’ summation on their first visit to this country was that “deep into Middle-earth he discovered a country whose greatest beauty just might be found in a bottle”. His favourite wine of the entire trip was “an 03 pinot noir from the Pisa Range Estate (Central Otago) whose earthy bouquet was so redolent and exquisitely layered with hints of river rock and dark cherry…….”.
Owner of Pisa Range Estate Warwick Hawker says “New Zealand wine continues to wow the international wine community, with its youngest wine-growing region – Central Otago - producing outstanding wines. But this article, - from one of the world’s pre-eminent travel magazines Conde Nast - goes much further in acknowledging Central Otago as an exciting wine tourism destination.
Chang-rae Lee and His family were guests of our wine tourism partners Aoturoa Luxury Lodge (www.aoturoa.co.nz). The combination of staying in such stunning surroundings with awe inspiring views to snow-capped Mt Aspiring, trout fishing in the Clutha (a short walk from the Lodge) charming hosts, together with beautiful food and Pisa Range Estate wines has made this an unforgettable experience for the family. Chang-rae Lee’s full article Veni, Vidi Vino in New Zealand can be viewed on www.cntraveller.com.
“This international exposure cannot be underestimated and we look forward to hosting many more international guests” said Warwick Hawker. Pisa Range Estate and Aoturoa Luxury Lodge offer a wonderful wine and food tourism experience. Further information is available on both websites www.pisarangeestate.co.nz (food and wine section) and www.aoturoa.co.nz.
