New Auckland Regional Chair For Hotel Council

New Zealand Hotel Council Elects New Auckland Regional Chair

Jeffrey van Vorsselen, Managing Director of The Langham, Auckland has been elected Chair of the Auckland Region to replace outgoing Chair Paul Huggins who is leaving SkyCity Hotels to pursue other interests.  NZHC members in each region elect their own chair for a two year period.

Mr van Vorsselen is a professional hotelier, with over twenty years experience in the industry.  He has spent the last five years in Hong Kong where he opened Langham Place, Mongkok and played a significant role in the creation of the Langham Place brand.  Prior to this, Mr van Vorsselen held hotel management roles in Australia, the United Kingdom, Africa and Asia and worked at The Langham Auckland property when it was formerly managed by Sheraton.

NZHC’s Independent Chair, Jennie Langley, said the Board welcomed Mr van Vorsselen to the role, particularly at a time that members were under pressure.

"Jeffrey is coming onto the NZHC Board when the whole industry if facing uncertainty. With fewer international visitor arrivals than this time last year and a general tightening of travel budgets, it’s difficult to predict the longer-term implications.

“Hotel operators have managed through serious downturns in the past but the impact of this one is difficult to calculate.”

NZHC membership has grown significantly since it was established over ten years ago and the organisation is well positioned to further strengthen relationships with its members as well as key tourism and business partners and political leaders throughout the country.

“NZHC is recognised as a credible, professional organisation that not only represents the interests of its growing membership throughout the country, but also actively participates in the ongoing development and success of the wider tourism industry," says Ms Langley.
