Sixteen law changes due tomorrow, April 1st

Employers have a great deal of change to understand and implement from tomorrow, April 1st.

The Employers & Manufacturers Association (Northern) says its list (below) of 16 major areas of law change relate to employment and tax matters alone.

The list affects:

1. KiwiSaver

* Employer contribution rates

* Employee contribution rates

* Employer tax credits

* Employer Superannuation Contributions Tax (ESCT)

* KiwiSaver fee subsidy

2. Minimum wages

3. Infant and breast feeding in workplaces

4. Meal and rest breaks

5. PAYE tax rates

6. Secondary tax rates

7. New independent earner tax credit

8. Fringe benefit tax rates

9. FBT filing thresholds

10. Minor FBT benefits thresholds

11. Extra pays rates

12. PAYE filing thresholds

13. R&D tax credits removed

"Employers not up to speed already with these changes need to find out what they have to do to benefit from, or comply with them," said Alasdair Thompson, EMA's chief executive.

"EMA ran 14 seminars for members in the region covering all these things in March and can assist where required.

"EMA is also currently fielding 260 calls a day on these and other employment compliance issues," Mr Thompson said.
