Fibre Plan Sending the Right Signals to Industry

Government's Announcement on $1.5bn Spend on Fibre Plan: Sending the Right Signals to Industry

"Government's announcement of a $1.5 billion plan to roll out fibre to the home and business is sending the right signals to industry", says New Zealand Council for Infrastructure Development.

High speed broad band connectivity is the infrastructure of the future. It is critical to advancing New Zealand's international competitiveness and to making sure that all parts of NZ from Oamaru-to-Te Awamutu-to-Auckland are connected to the world.

Private sector providers look forward to working with the Crown Fibre Investment Company to advance the roll out in cities and towns; with a view to an early commitment to providing high speed access for rural New Zealand and mobile users.  While fibre to bigger population centres makes sense; wireless technologies will also need to be advanced to provide high speed technological connectivity for smaller centers.
