ASB Keeping Jobs at Home

Media release
6 April 2009

ASB Keeping Jobs at Home

ASB today confirmed it will not be joining the movement to offshore any of its banking operations or roles, including its call centre activities.

“ASB currently does not offshore any of its call centre services, or indeed any of its activities,” says ASB’s CEO, Charles Pink. “In fact, of the 5,300 jobs in the ASB Group all 5,300 are performed in New Zealand.”

Unlike other major banks ASB has no plans to offshore jobs from New Zealand to low cost countries and does not foresee this policy changing.

“We believe Kiwi customers want to talk to people who, like them, live and work in the New Zealand community. At ASB we are committed to listening to our customers and in this case our customers are telling us that they don’t want to be calling ASB and talking to someone outside New Zealand. They want to see the banking system they use supported locally too, and not from outside New Zealand,” adds Mr Pink.

“As evidenced by our Job Creation Loan Scheme announced back in February, ASB is 100% committed to doing what we can to retain as many jobs as possible right here for New Zealanders.”
