Hyundai goes above and beyond for safety

Immediate Release

Hyundai goes above and beyond when it comes to safety

Hyundai Motors New Zealand will continue its drive to offer the safest cars at affordable prices as it launches new models in 2009. New offerings such as the i20 small car and the i30 Wagon will offer the same five-star safety rating as the award winning i30 compact car.

The latest i30 models have been awarded the top five star safety rating by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program, an independent testing organisation that assesses the safety aspects of a car in a series of crash tests. To gain the full five star rating cars must be fitted with the life saving benefits of electronic stability protection (ESP) and side air bags. All i30 models now sold in New Zealand come standard with these features, and so will the recently launched wagon variant known as the i30 Wagon.

“Unlike other car makers when it comes to safety we go for the maximum, not just the legal requirements. We understand that our customers don’t know all the ins and outs of safety so we’re trying to make it as easy as possible - we ensure that the best safety features are in all our models” said Philip Eustace, Executive Director of Hyundai Motors New Zealand.

“Hyundai was the first car maker in New Zealand to offer the safety benefits of ESP across our entire range and now our advanced car design is being recognised by way of our i30 gaining the maximum five star safety rating. This is a quality we will continue to provide in our up coming products like the i30 Wagon and the i20.”

All i30 models feature ABS (Antilock Braking) with EBD (Electronic Brake-Force Distribution) and BAS (Brake Assist), stability control, six air bags, front seatbelt load limiters and dual pretensioners that instantly reduce seatbelt slack in the event of a frontal collision, intelligent seatbelt reminders and a three point safety belt for the rear middle.

Philip finished by saying;

“Extra safety features such as ESP are not just a nice-to-have, at Hyundai we consider them a must-have and hope that by leading by example other car manufacturers will follow.”
