The Industry
Training Federation’s annual Vocational Education and
Training Forum in Wellington next week is set to be the
biggest yet with around 200 people registered to
attend.
“Six years ago, it was an afternoon get
together with about 30 people Now it is a two day event
with great prestige among people interested in research
which impacts on vocational education and training,” ITF
Executive Director Jeremy Baker
said.
“Presentations cover a range of research
with findings that can be used in a practical way to enhance
skill development in New Zealand.
“The conference
has attracted two keynote speakers from the United Kingdom.
Professor David Ashton from Cardiff University is an
expert in the international comparisons of skills systems
and Dr Johnny Sung from the University of Leicester will be
speaking on the varying nature of industry-led vocational
education and training.
“We are also very
fortunate to have a highly relevant and topical New Zealand
keynote presenter. Dr Karen Vaughan from the New Zealand
Council for Educational Research, will be speaking on
conditions and strategies for making the most of workplace
learning.
“In the current economic environment
making the most of the investment in training becomes even
more critical to enable workplaces to whatever opportunities
are available,” Mr Baker
said.
