Saint Clair Shines at Wine Decanter Awards 2009

MEDIA RELEASE: 21 MAY 2009

Trophy Winning Tipples

Saint Clair Shines at Wine Decanter Awards 2009

Saint Clair is again making waves in the wine world with its winning ways, this time for its impressive successes at the world’s biggest wine competition, the Decanter International World Wine Awards.

The Awards, which attracted an epic 10,285 entries this year, work by scoring the wines and then giving them a grading from commended through to gold. The gold-medal wines are then tasted to award a regional trophy to the best of each style of wine, designed to recognize truly outstanding examples in their type.

Saint Clair received a Trophy for the New Zealand Pinot Noir over 10 pounds for its Pioneer Block 5 Bull Block Pinot Noir 2007, produced by grower Robert Goulter. Saint Clair’s Pioneer Block 12 Lone Gum Gewurztraminer 2008 also took out a Trophy for New Zealand Dry Aromatic over 10 pounds, a tribute to growers Chris and Judy Simmons.

In addition to these triumphant tipples, Saint Clair’s Pioneer Block 15 Strip Block 2007 was also awarded a Gold Medal in the International Wine Challenge Awards, the world’s most prestigious and influential independent wine competition. The wine, which was described as having “a bright cherry red hue, a good fruity nose and showing some style with lovely rich, deep fruit”, is indicative of the full flavoured fine wines the Saint Clair team are producing on a regular basis.

Saint Clair owners, Judy and Neal Ibbotson, who are currently in London attending the London Wine Trade Fair, are proud of their winery’s latest achievement. Neal comments: “It is just great to have Saint Clair rewarded in this way. It is a real tribute to not only the skilled and deserving growers, who we are so proud of, but also the whole of the Saint Clair wine making team who work so hard to produce these wonderful wines.”

Saint Clair’s consistency at achieving recognition and success on an international level has been astonishing. The family owned and operated winery are well renowned not only for their award winning wines, but also the family oriented approach they embrace in all aspects of their business.
