Waikato identity inducted into Harcourts’ Hall of Fame

22 May 2009 – Popular and successful Hamilton realtor Brian King has been inducted into the prestigious Harcourts Hall of Fame in recognition of the significant contribution he has made to Harcourts New Zealand, the country’s largest real estate group, and to the Waikato community.

The Managing Director and co-owner of Harcourts Monarch Real Estate, which operates five Harcourts offices in Hamilton, “Kingy” was inducted into the Harcourts Hall of Fame at a black tie awards dinner in Auckland on Wednesday night at which Harcourts New Zealand’s highest performing individuals and offices in 2008/09 were also honoured.

One of only a select few whose role in the growth and success of the Harcourts brand has been recognised in this way, Mr King is a former Harcourts New Zealand Number One sales consultant who is now at the helm of one of the group’s most successful franchises in addition to being a busy auctioneer and actively involved in both family and community life.

Described by Harcourts International Executive Director Paul Wright in an introductory speech at Wednesday’s function as “one of the best in the business”, Mr King is highly regarded in both his professional and person life.

“Positive and caring, energetic and hard-working, Kingy is a Harcourts stalwart who is savvy in business, a great leader, coach and mentor, a sought-after auctioneer who is hugely supportive of his team and the wider Harcourts group,” Mr Wright said.

“He is always very happy to assist his own people and to help others in the group, including auctioneering for other franchises and taking on speaking and other roles at Harcourts conferences. He’s also a loyal and vocal promoter of the Harcourts brand.

“A doting grandfather, keen fisherman and sports fan, Brian also makes a huge contribution to his local community including through auctioneering at charity fundraising events and organising company sponsorships such as a significant partnership with Hospice Waikato.  He also currently holds an executive positive with the Hamilton-based NZ Harlequins Rugby Club,” Mr Wright said.

Commenting on his induction to the Harcourts Hall of Fame, Mr King says he is both proud and humbled to have joined the esteemed group.

“It was totally unexpected and completely blew me away,” he says. “There are a lot of exceptional and worthy people in the Harcourts group so it’s incredibly humbling to have been honoured in this way and I am very proud to be able to stand alongside the others already inducted into the Harcourts Hall of Fame.

Speaking on the night Mr King thanked the “Harcourts family” for their support and paid a special tribute to his wife Patsy, “the love of his life”, the Monarch team and to his friend and business partner Davinder Singh.

Mr King is just the 13th person to be inducted into the Harcourts Hall of Fame, joining Mr Singh as the only Waikato members of the prestigious group.

A qualified chef who achieved considerable success as a restaurateur and businessman in the hospitality sector, Mr King started his real estate career almost 20 years ago - initially in hotel and motel sales before moving to residential property sales and management with Harcourts, originally in the Hamilton City office.

Harcourts’ Number One in Hamilton in just his second year with the group, Mr King went on to be named the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand’s Real Estate Agent of the Year for the Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Gisborne and was also Harcourts’ Number One Sales Consultant in New Zealand for three consecutive years.

In 1998 he became the residential sales manager of the multiple offices operated by Harcourts Monarch Real Estate in Hamilton and also the company’s head auctioneer, a role he still holds today.

Just over five years ago Mr King bought into the Hamilton franchise, partnering with long-term friend and established Harcourts business owner Davinder Singh, who had recruited him in 1991.

The pair, who both benefit from the active support of their wives, have formed a superb partnership at the helm of Harcourts Monarch Real Estate, which has five successful offices and boasts some of the highest performing sales consultants in the industry.
