PGP is essential for a competitive seafood industry
The Seafood industry welcomes the opportunity presented by the introduction of the Primary Growth Partnership, which may further enhance its role as a national economic contributor.
“This is a great opportunity for the industry to meet the government’s investment and respond positively,” said Owen Symmans, New Zealand Seaford Industry Council chief executive. “Government has demonstrated commitment and now the ball’s in our court to match it.
Aquaculture New Zealand chief executive Mike Burrell is enthusiastic about the opportunity offered by government’s initiative.
“Our continued success will depend on our ongoing and increased investment in technology, research and development and productivity – it is an investment in our competitiveness as a food producing nation.”
An economy that supports and sustains a public/private partnership across its primary sectors will enable a greater level of return and economic benefit to all not just those directly involved, he said.
