New provider for Ports of Auckland boat tours

Media Release
10 June 2009
New provider for Ports of Auckland boat tours

Ports of Auckland has appointed a new provider for its free weekly boat tours of the Waitamata seaport, award-winning tourism operator 360 Discovery.

The free public and school tours run on Wednesdays at 11.00 am with additional Saturday sailings in the summer months.

Ports of Auckland spokesperson Catherine Etheredge says the educational, all-weather tours are popular with family groups and schools.

“You can get a close-up look at visiting cargo and cruise ships, the largest port cranes in the country, and our fleet of diesel/electric straddle carriers at work.”

“The tour commentary also provides insights into the rich history Auckland city shares with its port.”

Ms Etheredge says more than 6,000 people have taken a tour since Ports of Auckland began offering them in 2002.

Places on each tour are limited and bookings are essential.

Bookings can be made online at www.360discovery.co.nz or by phoning 0800 360 3472.  School groups should contact the Maritime Museum Education Programme on 09 373 0801.

Tours leave from the 360 Discovery Kiosk, Pier 3, Quay Street.
