Exhibitors delight in wet weather

NZ National Agricultural Fieldays exhibitors delighted in heavy rain over Mystery Creek Events Centre yesterday. Persistent showers drove the 37,087 visitors indoors to hundreds of satisfied exhibitors. Buildings overwhelmed by visitors were bustling market places; as a result businesses reported a significant increase in sales and genuine leads.

Fieldays General Manager, Barry Quayle remarked “We are more than happy with Friday’s figures, especially considering the relentless rain. It was an impressive turn out with exhibition areas teeming with enquiry, generating greater sales for exhibitors.”

Total visitors through the gate by day three was close to 92,000 and remains on track with organiser’s expectations. Last year the event enjoyed four clear days resulting in a record attendance for Fieldays since its inception in 1968. This year despite challenging conditions, in both weather and economy, Friday was just over 4,000 less than the same record day last year.

Fieldays 2010 Premier Feature, ‘Innovation for Future Profit’ was unveiled yesterday by Minister for Economic Development, Hon. Gerry Brownlee. The purpose of a Fieldays Premier Feature is to highlight an important topic of relevance to the rural industry; forming a primary theme for the annual event.

‘Innovation for Future Profit’ directly aligns with Outcome 1 of the Dairy NZ Strategy for New Zealand Dairy Farming; focused on increasing farm profitability. This premise will acknowledge the progressive approach adopted by New Zealand farmers to achieve long term growth. It will be a time to celebrate the results of New Zealand’s cutting edge agri-technology and the ability to adapt and even thrive in a challenging environment. ‘Innovation for Future Profit’ embraces New Zealand farmers as astute business people, and will provide insight into planning for the future by introducing unique ways of sustaining profitability.

NZ National Agricultural Fieldays is held at Mystery Creek Events Centre, 10 minutes south of Hamilton, and closes 5pm Saturday 13 June.
