Cathay Pacific Provides New Connections To Guangzhou Through Dragonair
Cathay Pacific’s New Zealand passengers will now have greater access to Guangzhou, the provincial capital of Guangdong and the biggest city in China’s fast-growing Pearl River Delta region, thanks to the announcement by its sister airline, Dragonair, that it will launch a new service to the region.
The new twice-daily service, to be operated by A320 and A321 aircraft, will be launched on September 14, 2009, providing passengers travelling between Hong Kong and Guangzhou with more choice and convenience.
The introduction of Dragonair’s new service will offer improved connectivity for passengers travelling between New Zealand and Guangzhou, with the flights connecting with Cathay Pacific’s three times weekly CX118 morning service from Auckland to Hong Kong. From October 25, the connection will be increased to a daily service.
Cathay Pacific will codeshare on the service, subject to government approval.
Mr Ian Herald, New Zealand Marketing Services Manager at Cathay Pacific, said the introduction of the new services would strengthen Cathay Pacific and Dragonair’s presence in their core Mainland market, and would appeal to its New Zealand passengers.
“Air to air connections are still the most convenient way for international travellers to move in and out of the Pearl River Delta region. Dragonair’s new service to Guangzhou will provide even greater convenience to our New Zealand passengers, offering them improved connectivity to the region.”
In addition to the benefits the new service would provide to New Zealand passengers, Mr Herald said the airline expected to see growth in the number of inbound tourists from China.
